As you can conclude from the name, geophysics belong to the geosciences. It combines physics, geology, mineralogy, petrology and a lot more to a science of its own.
Geophysics deal with the exploration of the solid Earth and its interior, but also with the high atmosphere. Subsequently, the discovered area stretches over a few thousand kilometres, while meteorology and geology both only deal with a few ten kilometres.
On behalf of the variety of studies, geophysics is commonly divided into different fields.
